Making the most of our last, and long, day

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

We wanted to make the most of our last day so we set the alarm for 7.30 and 4 snooze alarms later I was in the gym with Tom and Harry for our final 4 minute super intense workout. I tell you, you start Tabata completely calm and finish with legs like jelly, heart rate in the 170’s, out of breath, sweating like you’ve done a 5k. You feel great after you’ve showered though. Waterfront and all that

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

We had a good lie in this morning since we weren’t to bed until well past midnight and also we decided to skip our morning Tabata session for the same reason. We elected to walk over to a bagel breakfast place called Finagel A Bagel which we had seen from the Dukw Tour and when we found it, it was actually Brueggers. They make any manner of complex Read the rest of this entry »

Yankees 9 – Redsox 6

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

We left the hotel and stopped off for late tea at California Pizza Kitchen and then walked up to Fenway Park for 7pm. You could see people streaming in from all directions much the same as football in England. We found our seats with relative ease and they were superb just as advertised. There’s always a feeling of trepidation Read the rest of this entry »

The Duck Tour Experience

Posted by Joe Blacknell. No Comments

In Boston we did something called a duck tour and before you say ‘ducks aren’t big enough to ride’ let me explain. Obviously you know that ducks live on land and water so what if you made a bus do the same. These boat trucks were made for the war so that a war truck can drive straight into the water. And I’m sure they’re glad they did because they now have hundreds Read the rest of this entry »

Top of the Hub

It was the brunch  we had all been hyping up for a while, The Top of the Hub! An apparently massive buffet with pancakes and waffles said Mum and Dad. Read the rest of this entry »

Newbury Street to Redsox Store then Border Café

Posted by Paul Blacknell. 3 Comments

Coffee and a pastry was all we had for breakfast today in anticipation of lunch at the Border Cafe. We walked up from the hotel down Boylston past the site of the Boston Marathon bombing earlier in the year. Helen spotted the Crate & Barrel store and started to walk in – my comment along the lines of ‘as long as we don’t dawdle’ was ridiculously naive Read the rest of this entry »

Kendall & Harvard Squares and sailing on the Charles River

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

Tom, Harry & I visited the hotel gym at 7.30am and did a round of Tabata – using a just downloaded app made the timing much simpler. Plus, as the gym had several bikes, we could all do it together. The gym in New York was pretty good but things just got better and better – all that equipment we could admire and not use! Nice views across Boston while you work out. They even had Read the rest of this entry »

Reminiscing as we wander around Beacon Hill

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

We stepped out of our rather grand hotel onto Copley Place and headed up Boylston St. and then across Boston Common. Our first stop was Matthew & Helen’s old apartment block and then we walked past the State House to call in on 21 Beacon Street – our home for the last 4 of our years there. Driving up to Boston

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

After packing tidying our house (owners refer to it as a cottage but they only exist in England) we set of via route 28 west towards Boston hoping to find some batting cages we looked up on the iPad. Our luck was in at West Yarmouth and spent about 30m there. They’re coined operated ($1.50 for 10 balls) and after donning crash helmets we Read the rest of this entry »

Whale watching in Provincetown

Posted by Paul Blacknell. No Comments

We had to be up early as I’d pre-booked a whale watching trip for 1230 in Provincetown and we were concerned about traffic after yesterdays jams. However, we made good time and parked at the quiet end of the town and walked down the beach and main street wondering where the town centre actually was. Provincetown is made up of one way streets and seems to have been deliberately kept back from moving with the times – a good thing in America. Read the rest of this entry »
