Crowded at the Top of the Rock

Posted by Paul Blacknell

We chose the top of the Rockefeller Center for our skyscraper trip because it’s much much cheaper than the Empire State and I don’t like getting ripped off. Once you’re at 70 stories high I don’t think the extra really makes a lot of difference. The view is nothing short of amazing, you really do feel on top of the world. We chose to ascend at 8pm so we could see the sun set and view the skyline at dusk and it was stunning.

What we hadn’t anticipated was how crowded it was along with how difficult it was to get to the front of the 4 deep crowd trying to take clear pictures. Most people seemed happy to stand there for half and hour and forget about everyone else. Such is the world we live in. Taking photos in the dark is impossible hand held and I needed to rest the camera on the building structure.

After about an hour we descended and located a Bill’s Bar and Burger for dinner. You can probably figure out what we had but it was very good quality and reasonably priced.
