Driving up to Boston

Posted by Paul Blacknell

After packing tidying our house (owners refer to it as a cottage but they only exist in England) we set of via route 28 west towards Boston hoping to find some batting cages we looked up on the iPad. Our luck was in at West Yarmouth and spent about 30m there. They’re coined operated ($1.50 for 10 balls) and after donning crash helmets we stepped into the cage and the machine chucked 10 balls at you at varying speeds. You picked your speed according to cage. We opted for 35mph which was plenty hard enough. In honesty it wasn’t that difficult to hit but it was to hit well. The boys all had a go and Joe also tried the larger softball option. The boys also entered the soccer cage where, as you might guess, the machine passes you a ball and you practice either shooting for goal or passing to a teammate target.

20130816-092140.jpgWe also looked up a Five Guys Burgers and Fries and stopped there for lunch. This was famed by a rap video and is Zagat rated for good reason. Best fast food burger I’ve ever had but streets ahead of anything else. $6 for a cheeseburger unlimited fillings/toppings! We ordered standard fries each and ended up with enough for all our extended families.

We arrived in Boston after a couple of hours drive from Cape Cod. Even though our drop off time was 4pm and web had arrived 2 minutes before, the Dollar staff had all gone home. I was told by the hotel garage I’d have to pay for parking or take it to the airport. Not impressed. Felt like I got lucky when somehow he appeared and took the keys. Furious when I realised I’d forgotten to refuel and would have to pay their extortionate rates. You’re always furious when its your fault!
